For many of us, narrowing down our makeup collection for travelling can be quite a difficult task. I recently went to New York for a 4 day trip. I always like to be prepared and keep my options open when it comes to packing. So, as you can see from the photos, I packed a fair bit of makeup but what I believed to still be a modest amount.
However, now that I am back from NYC, I can say that I only used about 30% of the makeup I packed (oops, overpacking error on my part!).
Listed below are my go-to's and current favourites:
1. Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer with SPF 30
Words cannot express my love for this product. It gives you light-medium coverage that you can easily build. It feels very light on the skin and lasts well throughout the day. It just gives you a beautiful natural, glowy finish. I also like that there is SPF in this product - so sunscreen is one less thing I have to apply in the morning. When I last went into a Sephora in Canada, I noticed that the Tarte BB cream there didn't have the SPF 30 factor. I thought that Tarte may have changed the product from when I purchased it a year ago. But, when I was in NYC this month, the Sephora's there had the regular Tarte BB Cream with the SPF. So just keep an eye out for that if you're buying it in stores.
2. Mac blush in "Plum Foolery"
Mac blushes are my favourite product that Mac make. They apply so beautifully and last nicely on my skin. Plum Foolery is a sheertone shimmer finish with (as the name indicates) a plummy tone. I don't like really sparkly products so I was a bit hesitant with the "shimmer" finish. However, it just gives you a gorgeous glow and kind of doubles as a cheek highlighter too.
3. Mac Minerlize Skinfinish Natural
My go-to powder. It is light and natural on the skin and doesn't dry me out.
4. Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream in "13" and Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint in "Lots o' Latte"
I have been obsessed with cream eyeshadows lately. I find they are less fussy and messy and also less likely to get in my contact lenses. Both of these products last pretty well throughout the day. I used them with my Urban Decay Primer Potion and they didn't crease or look terrible even after 8+ hours of wear.
5. Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains in "Adore" and Colorburst Matte Balm in "Elusive"
Both quite natural lip colours. No fuss, easy to apply products that still look great and are quite moisturizing (especially "Adore")
6. Some other items include: my mascara which at the moment is Revlon's Photoready 3D Volume. It's a pretty good mascara but is a little fussy. I wouldn't rush out to repurchase it again but overall I quite like it. Some lip products I carried in my purse included my Sephora Super Nourishing Lip Balm, Nivea lip balm, and my Buxom lip gloss in "Dolly" which you can read all about in my previous blog post. The Sephora balm is fairly moisturizing with a nice light vanilla scent. Whereas the Nivea balm has a thicker, more hydrating formula. Lastly, Mac Fix+ is a must for me, especially when travelling. It just gives your face such a nice, refreshing mist!
For makeup brushes, I only used my Real Techniques buffing brush (for Tarte BB cream), multi-task brush (for Mac MSFN), Caryl Baker Visage blush brush, and Real Techniques base shadow brush (for blending my cream eyeshadows).
I wanted to mention my favourite makeup bag! It's from MUJI and I actually got in when I was in NYC several years ago. It is the only makeup bag that I've found that nicely stores my brushes as well as makeup products. Also, the layout of the bag has lots of different pockets/storage options, making it really easy to keep your makeup organized. So, you can easily do your makeup out of this bag and be able to quickly put everything away again how you packed it. Unlike a lot of makeup bags where you have to dump all of it's contents onto the bed in order to find a certain product you're looking for.
What products do you travel with and do you have a favourite makeup bag?
