Buyer Beware: Life Brand's Daily Moisturizing Lotion

I have been using Cetaphil moisturizer for as long as I can remember and I have been happy with it for the most part. It keeps my skin nice and hydrated, absorbs well, doesn't break me out, is reasonable price etc. But, when I was puttering around Shoppers Drug Mart recently, I noticed how their house brand, Life, has their own version of Cetaphil's moisturizer for several dollars less...

So, I thought I would pick up each bottle (as they were beside each other on the shelf) and compare their ingredients. As you can see below, with Cetaphil's list on the left and Life's on the right, the ingredients are essentially identical! So, I thought I would try the Life brand to save a bit of money.

However, once I began using the Life moisturizer, I soon realized that despite the identical ingredients, the products were far from the same. The Life brand is far more watery with a bit of a different smell. Also, the absolute deal breaker for me is the fact that when I apply the Life moisturizer, it doesn't do a good job of hydrating my skin! I will wake up in the morning with dry skin that feels tight, something that has never happened with Cetaphil.

Overall, I will no longer be using the Life moisturizer on my face. Though it didn't break me out, it just wasn't keeping my skin moisturized. I will just have to use it as a body lotion on occasion instead.

Have you ever found generic products that have served as well as brand name products? Let me know in the comments below!
